thank you so much!!!! and yes, i do have some tips!!! I’m also a beginner but those simple tips helped me a bunch SO
(note: im probably gonna get some terms wrong so think of this as a “pixel art for dummies, by a dummy”)
jaggies! bad
jaggies are pixel lines that dont look good. When you make a line dont just DRAW a line, think about… numbers… math…. gross. make a pretty line, because a jagged line is ugly!!!

first one is ugly! Jagged! bad. Second one is harmonious… pretty… makes your eyes feel good.
curves?? just remove one pixel
umm remove one pixel when you do curves. makes the line more…. curvy
those things! pillowshading, or antialiasing
so you have your normal line, and your color, and you add a color in between to give the illusion… of a curve… yea

this one is less a “DONT DO IT WITHOUT PILLOWSHADING” and more of a “do it, but in moderation” kinda thing!!! if you add too much pillowshading, it makes the picture blurry, and it becomes the dreamed…. ANTIALIASING
or maybe its the reverse. idk
canvas size! very small
i did my first one like 200x200 pixels and its WAY TOO BIG!!!! try 64x64 instead, because it will look more… pixelly…. which is…. the goal. asesprite allows you to save your file bigger than it actually is, so you can have your 64x64 pixels art and save it as a 640x640 SO!!!! draw small
colors! not a lot
this is a SMALL drawing dont use a lot of colors or it will look super busy. this isnt a painting!!! if one character has like, a purple hat, i try to limit myself to two colors, max three for the hat: one for the lineart, one for the actual hat color, and one for shadows+pillowshading… I’ll probably try more colors when I think I actually get the hang of things!
last one (very important): look at what cooler people are doing
i mostly looked real closely at deltarune’s pixel art and animations to get inspiration. im still learning.
(thats susie in the very good videogame deltarune, so: not my art)
how the HECK does that stuff work, look at SUSIE’S HAIR!!!! WHAT!!!! ITS JUST??? HOW??? LOOK AT HER BANDS IT GIVES THE ILLUSION OF WIND GOING THRU HER HAIR BY JUST CHANGING THE PIXEL COLORS IM!!!!! what the heckie
anyway thats all i have. I HOPE IT HELPS?

I am so serious when I say if you want to learn about light, you NEED to at least look at modesevenβs tutorials. even if youβre not pursuing a painterly style, this is all essential theory that can be easily adapted to different coloring styles. notice how none of these ever say βlight with these colors and shade with these colorsβ? notice how this is teaching how light works on a mechanical level, and reminding the audience to adjust the actual colors they choose by context? THAT is good advice.
(if youβre thinking βwow I want to study more of this persons art!β I encourage you to do so, but proceed with the knowledge that modeseven draws pretty much exclusively weird as hell kink art. sometimes wisdom comes from horny places)

“You’re not too fat to be a Pastel Child”
I haven’t seen any chubby pastel goth fashioned girls so I wonder if they exist. I tell you, you’re not too fat to be in this or any style, you can pull it ;)
